Reza Mirkarimi's “The Daughter” wins top prize at Moscow Film Fest

Iranian director Reza Mirkarimi picked up the top Golden George award for The Daughter at the closing Thursday, June 30 of the 38th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival. Farhad Aslani won best actor, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

British director Stephen Frears received an award for outstanding contribution to world cinema, an honor the festival also bestowed on Spanish writer, director, actor and producer Carlos Saura and veteran Russian director Sergey Solovyov, whose new film Wild Pigeon had also been in competition, though it failed to pick up any prizes.

In other awards at the festival's gala closing ceremony at Moscow's central Rossiya cinema, a special jury prize went to Bulgarian director Radoslav Spassov for The Singing Shoes. Denmark's Puk Grasten picked up best director for Danish-US coproduction 37.
