National Gallery Int’l Music Festival draws to a close in Yerevan

The closing concert of the National Gallery International Music Festival was held Thursday, July 7.

The festival has been held in the Fresco Hall of the National Gallery of Armenia since 2005. It was launched by the Gallery of Arts Fund (President Mariam Shahinyan) with the support of the Ministry of Culture and in partnership with VivaCell-MTS.

The closing concert program featured Hover-Septet band (artistic director and conductor: Honored Worker of Art Sona Hovhannisyan). The band was formed in 2011 from the soloists of the Hover State Chamber Choir. The repertoire includes Patarag (the Armenian Holy Mass) for men’s chorus by Komitas and a number of folk songs, as well as western European classical and modern works. Pieces by Komitas, Sayat-Nova, Arvo Pärt, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Artur Avanesov were performed at the closing concert.

VivaCell-MTS is a leading telecommunications operator in Armenia, which has been supporting the festival since 2006. In the course of nine years, the company has allocated AMD 119.5 million for the organization of the annual event.
