UN apologized to Rwanda for canceling exhibition on genocide
The UNO apologized to Rwanda for putting off the exhibition on genocide. According to Rwandan representative in UN Joseph Nsengimana, Kiyotaka Akasaka, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, apologized and said, currently the text of the exhibition is being reviewd. Farhan Haq, Associate Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General said, a working group of UN officials will review photos of the exposition and the text, after which the exhibition will be reopened. "I hope, it will be very soon," he said, RFE RL reported.
An exhibition on the genocide in Rwanda titled "Lessons drawn from Rwanda" was scheduled in the United Nations with the assistance of British non-governmental organization "Aegis Trust". However, under the pressure of the Turkish government the opening of exhibition was postponed, since there was a mention in the exposition about the Armenian Genocide as the first genocide in the 20th century.
