Instagram will soon let you turn off comments

We all know Instagram can be a base of brainless trolling and endless spam, but the photo-sharing app could soon be putting an end to the haters, Digital Spy said.

The Facebook-owned platform is going to give users more control over their feed, via a filter for comments on posts. The move comes shortly after a similar feature was offered to businesses.

If someone decides muting certain words or phrases isn't enough to halt an offensive stream, the option to turn off comments will also be on standby on a post-by-post basis.

"Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self expression," said Instagram's head of public policy, Nicky Jackson Colaco, in a statement to The Post.

"We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience. As we learn, we look forward to improving the comment experience for our broader community."

Initially, the new features will be restricted to a small number of high-profile accounts, but access to these troll-slaying tools is set to expand in the coming months.
