Ombudsman submits police violence report to Human Rights Watch

The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Aram Tatoyan held a meeting with Associate Director, Europe & Central Asia Division of Human Rights Watch Jane Buchanan and Human Rights Watch South Caucasus director Giorgi Gogia, Panorama.am reports.

The Ombudsman’s Office informs that the importance of thorough and accountable investigations based on reports on police violence against citizens was highlighted during the meeting.

The RA Human Rights Defender informed Jane Buchanan and Giorgi Gogia that his office submitted documents to the relevant structures for discussing them within the framework of procedures set by the Criminal Procedure Code.

During the meeting, they also discussed possibilities for joint projects to fight hate speech. The Human Rights Defender briefed on his and his staff members’ activities related to monitoring, visits to persons in detention and following up on individual cases.

The representatives of Human Rights Watch highlighted the importance of the meeting with the Ombudsman, expressing readiness to continue cooperation.
