Chief of the press service of the Armenian police Ashot Aharonyan refuted an opposition figure’s remarks on a “worker outflow” in the police.

Member of the Founding Parliament Alec Yenikomshian said earlier that a large number of police employees have resigned following the siege of the police HQ in Yerevan and the violent clashes between law enforcement bodies and civilians.

Yenikomshian himself was arrested for allegedly supporting the armed group that seized the patrol department only to be released several days later.

“I must disappoint Yenikomshyan; police is a professional, strong structure and is standing united more than ever following the dramatic developments in July,” Aharonyan said.

“In police, as in any other institution, employee turnover happens, people continuously resign and new ones are hired. To those keen on statistics, I can provide the following data: 250 employees resigned in the period between April 17 and June 17, and some 170 quit their jobs between July 17 and August 17.
