April 24 is a Day of Silence for Armenian community of Turkey
"April 24 is a Day of Silence for the Armenian community of Turkey. Days that precede and follow April 24 are not perceived as a time, when moves must be initiated on the Armenian issue," said Ara Kochunyan, editor-in-chief of Istanbul based "Zhamanak" newspaper. He said, traditionally the Armenian community of Turkey does not organize any mass events on April 24, this day within the community is a Day of Silence.
According to Kochunyan, as to the possibility of changes in the atmosphere concerning the Armenian issue proceeding from the latest events, particularly the Hrant Dink murder and his funeral, when thousands of Turks came with slogans "We all Hrant Dinks, we all are Armenians", it meant that those people came to protest against the assassination of Hrant Dink, "Agos" Armenian-Turkish bilingual editor-in-chief. "We cannot interpret otherwise the protest of those people," Ara Kochunyan stressed, RFE RL reported.
