Kabul int’l charity hit by bomb and gun attack

An attack on the offices of an international charity in the centre of the Afghan capital, Kabul, has left at least one civilian dead, officials say, according to BBC News.

Gunfire erupted when armed men stormed the building of the humanitarian organisation Care in the Shar-e-Naw area following a car bomb explosion.

Three attackers were killed. No group has admitted carrying out the attack.

Earlier, a series of blasts left at least 24 people dead and nearly 100 others wounded.

An army general and two senior police officers were among the dead from those attacks, a ministry of defence spokesperson told the BBC.

The Taliban, who have carried out frequent attacks in Kabul, said they were responsible for the blasts.

A government spokesman told the BBC that six other civilians were injured in the attack.

Some 42 people were rescued during the operation, including 10 foreigners, he added.

Traffic was blocked in several parts of the city and schools were closed.

The latest attacks highlight the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, which has left dozens of civilians dead.
