Committee approves visa-free travel between Armenia, China’s Macao

Members of the National Assembly’s standing committee on foreign relations approved Tuesday, September 6 an agreement on abolishing visas between Armenia and Macao (Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China). The document is now on the parliament’s agenda.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan, Armenia’s citizens can spend up to 90 days in no more than 265 days, and in the event they need to stay in Macao longer, he said, other permits will be necessary.

Committee member Gurgen Arsenyan noted that Macao is known as a region that developed thanks to gambling businesses and asked whether Armenians can get free access to China as well.

Another of the rapporteurs, Aleksandr Arzumanyan said in response that Armenians cannot enter China without visas and can use the People's Republic as a mere transit zone for reaching Macao.

“Citizens, however, can obtain Chinese visa from Macao more easily in case they haven’t got one in Armenia,” Arzumanyan said.
