Samsung's Galaxy S8 “could launch sooner than you think”

If you've seen a fire about lately, it's probably linked to Samsung's combusting Galaxy Note 7 handset. The flagship phablet has experienced an extremely turbulent launch period, being officially recalled just two weeks after going on sale.

While users have also been banned from using the device on aeroplanes and face a battery-limiting software update if they don't exchange their faulty device, the company itself is set to suffer a $1bn loss from the fiery Note 7 experience. As a result, speculation is rising that Sammy could bring forward the launch of its next flagship phone in order to make up for the losses and regain customer confidence, Digital Spy said.

According to The Korea Herald, securities firm KB Investment & Securities introduced the idea that Samsung should bring forward the release of the Galaxy S8.

At this stage, the prospect of an early S8 is nothing but speculation, though it does make sense considering the Note 7's chaotic launch., Digital Spy said.

Until Samsung hints it's considering the option, this will remain a wait-and-see game. Let's just hope there's no major malfunction if the phone is launched earlier than its usual slot at February's Mobile World Congress, Digital Spy said.

As for the Note 7, that battery-limiting update looks like it really is on its way.

Samsung apparently plans to release a patch in South Korea that will limit charging to 60% to prevent overheating.

The company is allegedly working with mobile carriers to push the update out, with the primary targets being users who have not yet taken part in replacement programmes.
