Beginning on November 1, 2002 Armenia will assume presidency in the organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation for a period of 6 months. Addressing the recurrent meeting of the Council of foreign ministers of the of the organization member countries in Tirana, the Armenian foreign ministry head Vardan Oskanian stated that within the term of Armenia's chairmanship the priority would be given to expanding the cooperation between the organization member states in the sphere of science and technology. Special attention will be paid to activation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation interactions with international organizations, including the EU and UN. Vardan Oskanian, in particular, said that for the Black Sea region, where political differences often hamper common interests, information technologies may become a factor to strengthen the positions of the people engaged in business, public and political activities and trying to overcome the borders and problems for attaining personal and common goals. The Black Sea Economic Cooperation has created apt mechanisms for such cooperation, the Armenian foreign minister noted.
