The iPhone 7 is just a few weeks old, but that won't stop the incessant rumour mil churning out info on all the upcoming Apple gadgets, Digital Spy said.

“And it doesn't matter if the release is around a year away, with Apple reportedly already working on the iPhone 8 — a device which is expected to offer a complete redesign for its 10th birthday.

The consensus currently suggests the company will indeed overhaul the iPhone, with yet another report, from the reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, revealing details about next year's handset.

Interestingly, Kuo, reporting through 9to5Mac, claims that the iPhone 8 could come with a glass and metal design like that of the iPhone 4.

The rear of the device will reportedly be made of glass, though this won't be the wraparound design that has been linked in patents. Instead, the aluminium frames could be replaced with stainless steel on top-tier variants — a move which would replicate the casing on the iPhone 4.

That said, lower-end variations would still come with the aluminium frames we've become accustomed to.

But why would Apple do this?

Well, let's be real, glass is just prettier, despite its tendency to offer uglier cracks when damaged. It can also be more scratch-resistant than, say, the plastic of the iPhone 3G and the shiny aluminium finish of the Jet Black iPhone 7.

Either way, it's still a long way to go until a portfolio of evidence has built up around what the iPhone 8 will consist of, so make sure you take any news at this stage with a generous helping of salt,” Digital Spy said.
