Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo on Saturday, October 8 visited the Tstitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide memorial in Yerevan to pay tribute to the 1.5 million victims of the massacres.

Hidalgo is currently in the Armenian capital to participate in celebrations marking the 2798th birthday of Yerevan.

At Tstitsernakaberd, the mayor laid flowers at the eternal flame and visited the museum-institute, also planting a tree at the Memory Alley, Tert.am reports.

The official was accompanied by a delegation comprising of members of all the political parties represented in Paris City Council, deputy mayor of the French capital Kamo Areyan, the country's ambassador to Armenia, as well as the director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Hayk Demoyan.

Leaving a note in the museum’s memory book, Hidalgo called on the world to acknowledge the truth and recognize the Genocide.

Talking to reporters, the French official said it was her second visit to Tsitsernakaberd and that she was deeply moved.

She reminded that the Paris municipality hosted an interesting exhibition to have a contribution to this important cause.
