A United Nations committee will review the human rights situation in Azerbaijan at sessions slated for October 20-21, Mareeg said.

The UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors implementation by states of one of the main international human rights treaties, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is meeting in Geneva from October 17 to November 4.

The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions of countries, including Slovakia (Oct 17-18), Poland (Oct 17-18), Moldova (Oct 18-19), Jamaica (Oct 18-19), Colombia (Oct 19-20) and Morocco (Oct 24-25).

The above are among the 168 States that have ratified the ICCPR and so are required to be reviewed regularly by the Committee of 18 international independent experts.
