Well Go USA Entertainment has bought North American and select international rights for Sarah Adina Smith’s thriller “Buster’s Mal Heart”, starring Rami Malek, Variety reports.

The film premiered in the Vanguard section of the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

Malek stars as a troubled man on the run from fate seeking solace from both his past and future. The film co-stars DJ Qualls, Kate Lyn Sheil, Toby Huss, and Lin Shaye.

Variety’s Geoff Berkshire gave “Buster’s Mal Heart” a positive review at Toronto, calling it “deliberately confounding and deeply strange.”

The film will be released in theaters in early 2017, followed by a digital and home video release later in the year.

“Buster’s Mal Hart” was written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith, was produced by Jonako Donley of Everything is Everything and Travis Stevens of Snowfort Pictures, and was financed by Gamechanger Films. Executive producers are Mynette Louie, Julie Parker Benello, Dan Cogan, Geralyn Dreyfous, and Wendy Ettinger.

Malek won a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance in “Mr. Robot.”
