Prime Minister wants unexplained wealth law, anti-corruption reforms

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Thursday, November 3 instructed Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan to introduce a bill on the criminalization of illicit enrichment within two weeks.

"When the officials' asset growth significantly exceeds their lawful income, they must be prosecuted," Karapetyan said.

The premier stressed that a draft law restricting cash transactions should be prepared alongside the bill.

"The so-called false loans or charity frauds are mostly made in cash, and the process becomes uncontrollable in principle," he said.

Another recommendation by the PM referred to the improvement of the specialized anti-corruption body. He said that relevant law enforcement agencies must submit detailed public reports on an annual basis.
