VivaCell-MTS helps build houses for families in need

The 2016 housing project sponsored by VivaCell-MTS and implemented by Fuller Center for Housing Armenia, which launched in early spring, is coming to an end. The heads of the organizations and the employees participated as volunteers in the construction works of a house for the Avetisyan family in the village of Zarinja in Armenia's Aragatsotn province helping the family, who had been living in a metal container for 30 years, to fulfill their dream.

The Avetisyans moved to live in a metal container after the destructive earthquake in 1988. The same year they undertook the construction of their house with the hope to have a home. Now, after three decades their dream has come true as a result of VivaCell-MTS and Fuller Center's support.

"My elder son was several months old when our house was destroyed, and we moved into a metal container. The other two sons were born here. Now my three sons are already young men but they have never felt the happiness of living in a decent home. Three decades of waiting... and now we are rewarded with a decent home thanks to you. It took 30 years to build a home; and now, finally, we are finishing the construction," said the father of the family, Garegin.

As a result of a-five-year partnership, through housing project, 15 families have built and or renovated their houses in Aragatsotn province.

"Nothing is more gratifying than the readiness to help. If each of us extend a helping hand to a person in need and boost their optimism, we will all succeed. Leaving people alone with their problems and remaining indifferent to them are the greatest evils. Our partnership with Fuller Center for Housing, being a social investment program, has another long-term mission: it is a call to all of us not to remain indifferent," said VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian.

"I have been in different parts of Armenia and met many families in need of decent housing, and I should say that there is still a lot of work to be done. This family is one of the thousands of families in Armenia who have been deprived of basic conditions for many years. Instead of the 41 families planned to be assisted this year we managed to solve the problem of the housing need for 42 families; 21 families have renovated their houses and 21 have completed the construction of their half-built houses," said Fuller Center for Housing Armenia President Ashot Yeghiazaryan.

In 2016, VivaCell-MTS invested more than AMD105 million for the housing project. In five years, more than AMD333 million have been invested. As a result of the partnership the housing problem of 135 families have been solved overall.
