Azerbaijan’s use of almost all of its armed forces and military equipment in upcoming drills is a violation of its international arms control obligations, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told German MPs in Berlin.

The “large-scale exercises” are slated for November 12-18, Baku said earlier, set to include more than 60,000 military personnel, over 50 aircraft, more than 150 tanks and armored vehicles, as well as up to 700 missile and artillery systems.

“Azerbaijan keeps escalating the situation in Nagorno Karabakh, and the upcoming exercise is a manifestation of provocations,” Nalbandian said as he met with German lawmakers at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation on Friday, November 4.

“This is Azerbaijan’s response to calls by the OSCE Minsk Group for pushing the negotiation process forward.”

After briefing the Bundestag members on Azerbaijan’s large-scale military attack against Karabakh in early April, the Armenian foreign policy chief came to address Armenia-EU relations and those with Germany.
