President rules out new Russian military base in Armenia

President Serzh Sargsyan has said there is no need for establishing new Russian military bases in the territory of Armenia.

In an interview with the head of the Russian government-owned international news agency Rossiya Segodnya, Dmitry Kiselyov, Sargsyan said there is no such need as the existing base "has all the capabilities to involve the elements that may be required."

"So I think, one military base in this little country is more than enough, it must simply be further built up," he said.

The 102nd Military Base is a Russian military base in Gyumri, Armenia, part of the Transcaucasian Group of Forces. The base is about 120 kilometers north of the Armenian capital, Yerevan.
