Arsenal's Thierry Henry, Man United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan hail each other

Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed he was a Gooner when he was growing up and idolised Arsenal forward Thierry Henry, The Metro reports.

The Armenian joined the Red Devils in the summer on a £26million deal from Bundesliga giants Dortmund.

The 27-year-old initially struggled at Old Trafford but he has two goals in his last two appearances and has been man-of-the-match in four of United’s last seven matches.

"I always supported Henry when he was playing for Arsenal," admitted Mkhitaryan.

"He is one of my favourite players because at that time I was also playing as a striker as a child. Then I became a midfielder."

Henry, speaking to Sky Sports, said United had so many chances against all those teams that they should have won more games at home.

"It was very important [to win]. Mkhitaryan looks like a player now. At the beginning of the season he wasn't ready," he said commenting on the Armenia international's goal in the game against Tottenham.

"At the end of the day, it comes back to putting the ball in the back of the net. When they start to do that, more often, then maybe they can come back into the title race."
