“Robin Hood: Origins” taps “Rogue One”s’ Ben Mendelsohn as villain

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” baddie Ben Mendelsohn is eyeing another villainous role, Variety said.

The Emmy-winning actor is in negotiations to play the Sheriff of Nottingham in Lionsgate’s “Robin Hood: Origins”.

The movie stars Taron Egerton as the titular, iconic character; Jamie Foxx as Little John; and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. “Fifty Shades of Grey” actor Jamie Dornan will portray Will Scarlett, Robin Hood’s half-brother.

Otto Bathurst is directing from Joby Harold’s script. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Basil Iwanyk, Tory Tunnell, and Joby Harold are producing.

The production companies are DiCaprio’s Appian Way, Safehouse Pictures, and Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures.

The story will center on Robin Hood, a war-hardened crusader who joins a Moorish commander in an audacious revolt against the corrupt English monarchy. The film will also be released in Imax.

Mendelsohn can be seen as Orson Krennic, an Empire official, in the “Star Wars” prequel “Rogue One,” which hits theaters on Friday. He recently won an Emmy (for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series) for playing Kyle Chandler’s deceased, criminal brother in the Netflix drama “Bloodline.”
