Nelly Furtado to release new album, “The Ride”

After nearly five years, Nelly Furtado is finally ready to give fans her brand new album.

The singer will return with her sixth studio collection The Ride on March 31, 2017, which will be released through her own imprint Nelstar Entertainment.

It will feature Nelly's recent track 'Pipe Dreams', which was released earlier this year.

"What happens when you have a successful album and/or career, is you go, go, go, more is more, yes yes yes and no time for no," said Furtado.

"That took its toll on me and didn't flow with my natural rhythm of who I am.

"I was having a crazy day and I drove to my friend's record store and I said to him, 'This is going to sound crazy but can I work at your store?'" Furtado recalled.

"I started doing a lot of things I always wanted to do, like sewing, ceramic and playwriting classes. I guess I was trying to distill my life a little bit. I was living in fast forward since I was 19.

"Through unstrapping and layering down and simplifying my life, I found joy again in art."

The Ride has been produced and mixed by John Congleton, who's previously worked with the likes of St Vincent, Explosions in the Sky and Blondie. Here's the tracklisting:

  • 'Cold Hard Truth'
  • 'Flatline'
  • 'Carnival Games'
  • 'Live'
  • 'Paris Sun'
  • 'Sticks and Stones'
  • 'Magic'
  • 'Pipe Dreams'
  • 'Palaces'
  • 'Tap Dancing'
  • 'Right Road'
  • 'Phoenix'

Nelly Furtado's new album is the follow-up to 2012's The Spirit Indestructible, which featured the singles 'Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)' and 'Waiting For The Night'.
