EU's visa-free regime with Georgia, Ukraine starting from spring 2017

The European Union (EU) could grant Ukraine and Georgia visa-free regime as soon as in the spring of next year, RIA Novosti cited a source in the European Commission as saying.

The proposal for the visa waiver for Georgia was issued by the European Commission on March 9 since the country met the conditions for visa requirement exemption. On July 7, the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs also recommended to grant visa-free travel to the residents of Ukraine, Georgia and Kosovo.

"As far as I know, Dimitris Avramopoulos - EU Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Commissioner - said on Wednesday, December 14 that he hoped that the visa-free regime would be granted at the start of spring," the source said.
