Levon Aronian suffers first defeat at London Chess Classic

Levon Aronian of Armenia suffered his first defeat at London Chess Classic against French grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. He now shares the 4-8 spots with Viswanathan Anand, Hikaru Nakamura, Anish Giri and Vachier-Lagrave.

The Armenian started the tournament with a win against England's Michael Adams, but followed with four consecutive draws.

The game of the day was the battle between the Americans Fabiano Caruana and Nakamura. The former played a beautiful game to beat his opponent.

With one point lead and three rounds to go, American chess genius Wesley So is surely the favourite to win the title.

The seventh round will take place on December 16.

The tournament is the last of the Grand Chess Tour. The winner in London receives $75,000, the overall winner of the Grand Chess Tour receives another $75,000.
