Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian was defeated at the ninth and final round of the London Chess Classic on Sunday, December 18.

The London Chess Classic was named as one of the three events to comprise the inaugural Grand Chess Tour alongside Norway Chess and the Sinquefield Cup.

Being tired after hours of play, Aronian pressed too hard and gave Bulgaria's Veselin Topalov a chance to go for the full point.

All the other games of the final round ended in draws, with American Wesley So securing the first spot in London. He thus won the Grand Chess Tour and earned a total of 295.000$.

Aronian shares the 7-9 spots together with Michael Adams of England and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, while Fabiano Caruana of the United States has the second spot.
