Sony's Platinum Wireless Headset for PlayStation arrives next month

Speakers and headphones can often be overlooked as part of a gaming setup, but a good audio arrangement can make a huge difference to your experience on console or PC.

With that in mind, Sony's new Platinum Wireless Headset is targeting players who place high priority on immersive sound, Digital Spy said.

The headset is scheduled to go on sale from January 16 next year, and will cost $158. It features, among many other fancy details, 3D audio technology.

In essence, this means that the headphones are capable of simulating noise all from directions around the user's ears, be that the standard two-planes of 5.1, or, as is this case with these impressive cans, sound coming from above and below.

Sony puts it like this: "discover a truly amazing level of immersion as 3D audio delivers sound from up to 100+ virtual speakers, completely encircling you in the action. Hear noise emanating from every direction including above, below and behind you with precise object-based sound in compatible PS4 games."

The headset also comes with a 3.5mm jack and can be used with mobile devices. The sound is powered by a pair of 50mm drivers.

Also on offer are bespoke modes preset by game developers, which, presumably, adjust the EQ and 3D sound setup to their ideal configuration, Digital Spy said.
