Karabakh conflict: Armenia PM no supporter of land-for-peace formula

Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan has said he "is not a supporter" of making concessions via the "territory in exchange for peace" formula when it comes to settling the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

At a press conference on Friday, January 13, he expressed the idea while answering a question about his stance on the issue, given his origins (Karapetyan was born in Karabakh but moved to Yerevan as a child).

"I don't support this idea but I am sure we do have an option, enabling us to ensure our security and win by means of negotiations," the premier said, adding that the option of compromise is still "discussable."

Concessions are not only about territories, he said, as there is still the issue of the status of Karabakh.

According to him, no one will ever make a decision that isn't acceptable for the population of Armenia.
