Yerevan hosts eighth round of Armenia-EU talks

The eighth round of negotiations over a new framework agreement between Armenia and the European Union was held in Yerevan on Wednesday, January 18.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, deputy foreign minister Karen Nazaryan headed the Armenian delegation, while the EU was represented by a commission, presided over by Luc Devigne, Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE countries.

At the meeting, political issues, as well as final and institutional provisions of the agreement were discussed.

The sides managed to reach a mutual understanding on a number of issues.

Dates for the next round of talks to be held in Brussels were also clarified, the Foreign Ministry said, failing, however, to name the exact date.

An Armenia–EU Association Agreement was called off by Armenia in early September 2013, when Yerevan chose to join the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union.
