Armenia's Levon Aronian comes in third at Tata Steel Wijk aan Zee

Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian claimed the third spot at the 79th edition of the prestigious Tata Steel Chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, on Sunday, January 29.

Aronian lost his final match against Dmitry Andreikin of Russia in his first defeat throughout the entire tournament.

Wesley So of the United States snatched victory, while five-time champion Magnus Carlsen from Norway, who won the tournament in 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016, ended on 8 points on the second place.

Aronian won the 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2014 editions of the Tata Steel Chess tournament.

Very strong chess players compete in the prestigious tournament, but regular club players are welcome to play as well. The top "A" section pits 14 of the world's best against each other in a round-robin tournament.
