Armenian Renaissance will join a coalition only if the party can have a real influence on political decisions, MP Mher Shahgeldyan told a National Assembly briefing on Friday, March 3.

At the same time, Shahgeldyan didn’t rule out forming a coalition “in the event of collecting many votes,” Aysor.am reports.

In response to a remark on the party’s influence when joining the ruling Republican Party’s coalition last time, the MP said “the situation was different then.”

“The projects we proposed were initially met with some approval, but that influence weakened over time,” Shahgeldyan explained.

“When we figured out that none of them will ever be implemented, we abandoned the coalition to fight for the projects we had received so many votes for.”

At the parliamentary elections slated for April 2, the Armenian Renaissance’s list is headed by Artur Baghdasaryan, the leader of the Rule of Law party, which was renamed to Armenian Renaissance in 2015. Also included in the list are Shahgeldyan, Heghine Bisharyan, as well as Hovhannes Margaryan and Ishkhan Khachatryan.
