Documentaries about Nagorno Karabakh conflict screened in London
London's Institute of Modern Art organized yesterday a screening of 6 documentaries about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict shot by Armenian and Azeri journalists. The documentaries show the war, its consequences, sufferings and life in armistice.
The event was initiated by Conciliation Resources international organization which assists in resolution of conflicts.
Program co-author Jonathan Cohen said "each film is a mirror." "Young journalists made an attempt to show the changes that took place in lives of ordinary people because of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. They tell about refugees and invalids. They help to understand the pain of the people living on the opposite side," he said.
"The organization has for the first time tried to engage the publics into a dialogue, since it's a way to resolution of the problem," he said.
"15 years have passed since armistice was sealed. Meanwhile, politicians go on making the same statements and are just not ready to prepare their publics for compromise. A huge deal of work is essential for establishing contacts between the sides. Objective information should be circulated instead of making militant statements," Mr Cohen told FRE/RL.
