EP recognition of Armenian Genocide allowed to raise the issue in other international organizations
Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian took part in the Second Convention of Armenian of Europe in Brussels October 15.October 15, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian took part in the Second Convention of Armenians of Europe dedicated to 20th anniversary of European Parliament's recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The Convention opened with remarks by Cilcian Catholicos Aram I, European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini and Chairperson of the European Armenian Federation Hilda Tchoboian.

Representatives from Switzerland, Norway, Russia and Middle East attended the event.

In his speech, Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian stressed the importance of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the European Parliament in 1987 and drew a parallel with the present discussion of H.Res.106 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Armenian Minister commented on Turkey's condemning and threatening statements and presented the stance of official Yerevan on congressional discussions.

"20 years ago the European Parliament made a decision, which is actual till today. This decision allowed to raise the issue in other international organizations," he noted.

Armenia's permanent representative to the CoE Christian Ter-Stepanian also addressed the Convention.

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby, OSCE Minsk Group French Co-chair Bernard
Fassier and ICG Project Director Sabine Freizer are expected to deliver their speeches October 16.
