Moscow seeks no war in Karabakh: U.S. ambassador

Moscow seeks no war in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Richard E. Hoagland has said in an interview with the Voice of America.

Citing disagreements between the United States and Russia, the ambassador said both countries nevertheless cooperate to reach a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the South Caucasus.

Moscow wants no clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia, he said, adding that the war would destabilize the region and harm Russia's own interests.

Also, Hoagland said it is time to start "serious high-level talks" on the conflict in order to reach a final solution.

According to him, the meeting held in Moscow on April 28 yielded positive results. At present, he said, ministers of the Minsk Group co-chairing countries are negotiating the next step.

The Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers - Edward Nalbandian, Sergey Lavrov and Elmar Mammadyarov – held a working meeting in Moscow on April 28.

At the meeting, the officials continued discussions on the prospects of the Karabakh conflict settlement talks, stressing the need to implement the agreements reached at the Vienna and St. Petersburg summits in April and June 2016.
