ENP aims at peaceful resolution of frozen conflicts
Resolution of frozen conflicts is one of priorities of the European Union, said Charles Tannock, European Parliament member, Vice-President of the Human Rights Sub Committee.
Mr Tannock's report was presented in Strasbourg November 14 during EP plenary discussions of the European Neighborhood Policy.
The report generates the idea of establishing Parliamentary Assembly of the European Union - Eastern Neighborhood, based on already existing parliamentary associations, in which Ukrainian, Moldavian, Azerbaijani, Georgian and Armenian parliaments, as well as observers from Russia and Turkey, would be represented.
"Peaceful resolution of lingering conflicts, like the conflicts in Nagorno Karabakh, Transnistria, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, is one priorities of the ENP. Extra financial resources and an active political course can contribute to peaceful processes," Mr Tannock said.
The Eastern Neighborhood will offer Azeri and Armenian parliamentarians to discuss the Nagorno Karabakh conflict jointly with the MEPs, according to him.
Tannock called on Turkey to open the border with Armenia and lift the blockade. He also urged Ukraine to join the EU bar on Transnistrian leaders' travel through its territory and tackled on development of civil society in Belarus, Trend reports.
