Gebrüder Weiss opens office in Armenia

Gebrüder Weiss is continuing to expand its presence along the Silk Road. The new representation office in the centre of Yerevan city started its activities at the beginning of April, and is connected to the Gebrüder Weiss Georgian branch in Tbilisi.

A twice-weekly groupage freight shipment service from anywhere in Europe through the company's Austrian (Vienna) and German (Hanau) warehouses to Armenia is offered. Alongside land transport services, the Gebrüder Weiss' portfolio also features air and sea freight, both managed by the Gebrüder Weiss hub in Tbilisi.

Caucasus region expanded

“By being represented in Yerevan, we are expanding our network in the Caucasus region, as a link between Europe and Central Asia,” explains Thomas Moser, Director and Regional Manager South-East/CIS at Gebrüder Weiss, the strategic step. The representative’s aim is the advancement of feasibility for export-oriented on-site companies entering the Armenian market. In this respect, Moser further explains it’s also intended to continue developing exports from Armenia to Europe.

Best transit option: the overland north-south corridor

“The transport situation in Armenia is not easy, since there is no direct access to the sea, and the geographically restricted borders in the west and in the east make transportation in the country difficult. This of course has an impact on transport options,” says Alexander Kharlamov, Managing Director of Gebrüder Weiss Georgia, about the challenging geographic component for logistics companies. The majority of all imports passes through sea ports of Georgia, and then proceeds overland through Georgia to Armenia.
