Spokesman for the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov once again defended the country's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.
Lawmaker from Yelk bloc Edmon Marukyan had earlier proposed leaving the EEU, with Sharmazanov urging Marukyan to suggest an alternative. The opposition MP then reminded their intention to relaunch talks on the Association Agreement with the European Union in the event of securing a majority in the parliament.
“The EEU is not a political, but an economic union. The economic component is thus what matters now,” Sharmazanov, who is also one of the deputy speakers of the parliament, told Aysor.am.
“Armenia has never turned down the Associated Agreement and there has never been a precondition of rejecting the EEU.”
Sharmazanov once again reminded about the cheaper natural gas and more agricultural opportunities that the EEU membership, according to him, has brought forward.
