Armenia sends fire appliances to help douse Georgia wildfire

Armenia has sent several units of fire appliances to help extinguish the blaze in Borjomi Gorge, Georgia's prime minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has said, according to Agenda.ge.

Georgia has been offered international help as a massive forest fire is still raging after it broke out three days ago in the country’s central area.

Apart from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey are also helping the country fight the fire.

Azerbaijan sent a helicopter on Monday, August 21, while Turkey sent two helicopters and, upon a decision of the Turkish Prime Minister, a large Turkish firefighting aircraft will also arrive later on Tuesday.

Firefighters battled a wildfire in Armenia's Khosrov forest reserve for days after finally succeeding to localize the fire with help from a Russian air tanker. The fire broke out on August 12 and burnt hundreds of hectares of vegetation.
