Three Manchester United FC players featured in the first three places, UEFA said on itw website.

Paul Pogba has been announced as the UEFA Europa League Player of the 2016/17 season during the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League group stage draw in Monaco.

The Manchester United FC and France midfielder, who won the UEFA Europa League title with his club in Stockholm last May, claimed a total of 140 points. His Manchester United teammates Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Armenia) and Zlatan Ibrahimović (Sweden) came second and third with 129 and 109 points respectively.

The voting jury was composed of the coaches of the 48 clubs that participated in the group stage of the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League, together with 55 journalists selected by the European Sport Media (ESM) group. The coaches were not allowed to vote for players of their own team. The final result was based on the total number of points from all the votes cast by the coaches and journalists.

Receiving this newly introduced award, 24-year-old Pogba said:

"I am very happy to be the first person to win the UEFA Europa League Player of the Season award. Hopefully, the new season will be as successful as the last one for both me and my club. Thank you so much."
