Charles Aznavour: I don't want to die on stage

French-Armenian singer and entertainer Charles Aznavour, 93, has said in a recent interview that he doesn't want to die on stage.

"I’ve written a lot about death, of course I think about it, but no, I don’t want to die on stage like Molière! And most importantly, I want to die as late as possible," the crooner explained in an interview with Gala.

Asked about retirement the singer asked "for what?"

"Play golf, tennis, or go fishing every day? This is not for me… I’ve been lucky that my voice continues to hold up, I will continue as long as possible. For me, retirement is the antechamber of death."

Aznavour received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on on August 24 after a more than 70-year career.

Born Shahnour Varinag Aznavourian in Paris to Armenian parents, has has sold more than 100 million records in 80 countries. He has been described as France's equivalent to Frank Sinatra.
