Iran wants anti-terrorism cooperation with South Africa

Iran's parliament speaker on Saturday, September 2 urged cooperation in fighting terrorism with South Africa and praised the latter's stance on defending Palestinians' rights, IRNA reports.

'Various spheres of investment between the two countries were discussed with South Africa's Parliament Speaker,' Larijani told reporters in a joint press conference, describing his talks with his African counterpart Baleka Mbet as 'satisfactory'.

The two parliament speakers also discussed trade cooperation, especially in terms of electricity power, he added.

'The two countries can have good cooperation in gas, oil and transportation fields, as well as attract investments in those sectors,' Larijani said.

The Iranian Speaker evaluated Iran-South Africa parliamentary ties and cooperation as 'positive' and expressed hope that the visit by the South African delegation to Iran would lead to trade ties between the two countries.

Mbete, heading a parliamentary delegation, arrived in Tehran on Friday. She met with President Hassan Rouhani prior to her talks with Larijani. The delegation is also scheduled to have a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Head of Central Bank of Iran Valiollah Seif.
