Armenia, U.S. talk trade and investment at Washington meeting

Armenia and the United States have at a recent meeting in Washington discussed trade relations and investment opportunities.

According to the Armenian embassy in the U.S., ambassador Grigor Hovhannissian has met with the American Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East Daniel Mullaney.

The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has repeatedly called for negotiating a U.S.-Armenia Double Tax Treaty to promote the growth of economic relations between the two countries.

"The lack of a working treaty creates legal uncertainty that deters potential U.S. investors, diverts investment flows, disadvantages American businesses, and - more broadly - hinders the growth of U.S.-Armenia economic relations," ANCA says.

The outdated forty-year-old 1973 U.S.-USSR Tax Treaty is recognized by the U.S. but not Armenia. Yerevan has repeatedly sought to replace this obsolete accord.
