Armenia's Levon Aronian drew against Hou Yifan of China at the the World Chess Cup, currently underway in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Two more Armenian grandmasters were participating in the tournament, but were left out after Round 1.

Aronian won the Stavanger-hosted Norway Chess tournament in June, 2017, also snatching victory at the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz tournament two months later.
