Gagik Jahangiryan dismissed from post of deputy prosecutor general
Armenian President Robert Kocharian signed a decree on dismissal of Gagik Jahangiryan from the post of deputy prosecutor general. By the same decree, Jahangiryan was stripped of the rank of state advisor.

On February 22, Gagik Jahangiryan joined the opposition movement led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

On the same day, prosecutor general Aghvan Hovsepyan petitioned the President for Jahangiryan's discharge. "A prosecutor can't be engaged in politics or be a member of a party. He is obliged to observe neutrality in any situation," the petition read.
