Youri Djorkaeff ready to support Armenian football, says PM

European and World champion Youri Djorkaeff has expressed readiness to support the development of Armenian football, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a Facebook post on Monday, July 9.

A former French international footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, Djorkaeff was born to Kalmyk-Polish father Jean Djorkaeff and Armenian mother Mary Ohanian.

“I started the working day by meeting with world-famous football player of Armenian origin, world and European champion Youri Djorkaeff,” Pashinyan said posting a photo of the former playmaker and himself to social media.

“He said he is inspired by the Armenian revolution and is ready to seriously support Armenia and the Armenian football.”

Djorkaeff has arrived in Yerevan for the Match of Legends held in the Armenian capital on Sunday. He was joined on the pitch by football legends Luis Figo, Paolo Maldini, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Hernan Crespo, Júlio César and many others.
