The Saudi regime has denied recent reports that claimed they were planning to reopen their embassy in Damascus soon, Al-Masdar news reports.

Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf released a statement on Monday evening that denied these rumors; however, the diplomat did not go into details.

“Referring to what have been circulated by some electronic websites on a statement attributed to Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on opening the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the claimed statement, affirming that this statement is completely untrue and baseless,” the official media page of the Saudi regime said on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the Qatari Foreign Minister released a statement affirming that his Gulf nation is not interested in restoring ties with Syria.

The Qatari Foreign Minister added that his regime also opposes lifting the suspension on Syria’s membership in the Arab League.
