Spanish TV reveals Armenia's history to madrileños

Telemadrid - a public television station in Madrid - has traveled to Armenia to prepare a special report on the country as a tourist destination.

"Armenia is considered the place of origin of one of the first civilizations ever. Therefore, we could not miss its impressive History Museum, located at the Republic Square in downtown Yerevan. It is one of the most important museums in the country for its collection of more than 400,000 objects, dating from the Paleolithic era to the present day. Among them stands out the oldest leather shoe in the world, which is more than 5,500 years old," the TV said on its website.

"To learn more about the recent history of Armenia, one should also visit the Armenian Genocide Museum, also located in the capital. This building is there to remind about the million and a half Armenians massacred at the beginning of the 20th century [at the hands of the Ottoman Empire]."

Reminding that Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity as a state religion, the report recommends visiting Khor Virap monastery and a host of other sites.
