A large U.S. military convoy entered northeastern Syria this past weekend despite President Donald Trump’s declaration victory against the Islamic State, Al-Masdar News reports.

According to a report from the Al-Hasakah Governorate, a U.S. military convoy consisting of more than 150 trucks entered Syria via the Simalka Crossing at the Iraqi border.

The U.S. military convoy reportedly contained a large amount of weapons that were to be delivered to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Last week, the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to take full control of the Baghouz Camp and its corresponding mountaintop after a long battle against the Islamic State.

The Syrian Democratic Forces are still clearing the remnants of the Islamic State in the eastern countryside of the Deir ez-Zor Governorate as the militant group is believed to have many sleeper cells in the Euphrates River Valley.

Despite their fight against the Islamic State, the Syrian Democratic Forces are still considered to be a militant group by the Turkish government.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly vowed to launch a military operation to expel the Syrian Democratic Forces from the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

The threats have left both Ankara and Washington at odds as the latter is the primary supporter of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
