Marie Yovanovitch: U.S. will facilitate resolution of regional problems
The U.S. will facilitate resolution of problems in the Black Sea region, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia said.
"Unfortunately, recent events in Georgia as well as tensions in the Armenia-Turkey and Armenia-Azerbaijan relations hamper development of the region," Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch said during Black Sea security program regional workshop that opened in Yerevan today.
The invitation Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan issued to his Turkish counterpart was a courageous step. Sargsyan and Gul are good diplomats. They found a new way toward cooperation which can ensure confidence between the states of the region," she said.
Touching on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Ambassador said the U.S. has hopes for its resolution. "Starting with 2004, the process is moving forward. Now, a document envisaging resolution of the conflict is on the table," Ms. Yovanovitch.
