Kars-Akhalkalaki-Baku link construction to resume in March
Construction of the Georgian sector of Kars-Akhalkalaki-Baku link, which was suspended over bad weather conditions, will be resumed in March, an Azeri official said.
"The suspension of works was not caused by the global financial crisis. We have no problems with financing," said Vusal Aslanov, deputy general manager of Azerinshaatservice construction company.
At that he informed that it hardly seems possible to finish construction works in November 2009, according to the schedule, ANS reports.
In total 98 kilometers, the line is supposed to be built between Kars and Akhalkalaki, with 68 kilometers within Turkey and 30 kilometers in Georgia. The existing line from Akhalkalaki on to Tbilisi and Baku will be modernized.
For the construction of the railroad on Georgian territory, Azerbaijan is providing a U.S. $220 million loan, repayable in 25 years, with an annual interest rate of only 1%.
