Second group of Lebanon Armenians land in Yerevan

The second group of Lebanon Armenians landed in Yerevan on Tuesday, August 18, Hovhannes Aleksanyan, Head of the Repatriation Division of the Office of the Chief Commissioner of the Diaspora, said in a Facebook post.

Around 100 people, including 21 children, were among Armenians from Syria and the United Arab Emirates to be repatriated.

The first 100 Armenians arrived from Lebanon one week after the devastating explosion that rocked Beirut on August 4.

The blast is believed to have been caused by a fire that ignited a 2,750-ton stockpile of highly volatile ammonium nitrate. The material had been stored at the port since 2013 with few safeguards despite numerous warnings of the danger. Hundreds of people were killed, thousands were injured, while many are still missing.
